Donate In Memory of Bob Byer

Robert S. Byer, 84, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Byer (née Garb); four children and their spouses, Hal Byer (Mar), I. Andrew Byer (Debra), Steven Byer (Anne), and Lisa Byer Scheel (Norman); ten grandchildren and three spouses; and six great-grandchildren. Bob’s kindness, humility, and integrity were felt well beyond his bloodline: Bob Byer truly was a friend to all.

Bob was born in Trenton, New Jersey on February 22, 1933, the son of Nathan and Reba. After graduating from Trenton High School and attending Tulane University, he opened Robert’s Five-and-Dime Store in Trenton. Following his service to the country in the United States Army, Bob got involved with a new business called Charles Chips and moved his family to Clark, New Jersey. He worked tirelessly to build the business and provide for his family. In his late forties, Bob convinced the Charles Chips manufacturer to expand west. He sold his East Coast business, took a major risk, and moved his family to Southern California. Bob was instrumental in establishing the Charles Chips brand throughout the western United States. Bob will be remembered for much more than just his business acumen. Upon moving to Palm Desert with Linda, he became the marshal at the Mountain Vista Golf Club at Sun City. You never knew on what hole you would see Bob riding by, but you could always count on a smile and cheerful greeting from the nicest guy in Del Webb.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Forest Lawn - Cathedral City.
